The U.S. Department of Transportation (“DOT”) distributes substantial funds each year to finance construction projects initiated by state and local governments. With the Trump administration proposing significant investment in infrastructure, the potential exists for an increase in funding available for state and local DOT-assisted transportation projects.
Under the federal Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (“DBE”) program, a portion of these funds are required to be expended on DBEs, which include firms owned by women and minorities. Therefore, many opportunities exist for such businesses to participate in the DBE program as prime contractors or as subcontractors to large businesses needing to partner with DBEs. To help DBEs take advantage of these opportunities, senior partner Tony Franco and associate Jackie Unger, will provide an overview of the DBE program and specific requirements for interested businesses, including:
- Certification standards for qualifying as a DBE
- Process for getting certified as a DBE
- Requirements for remaining in the DBE program
